Description
Chamusume means tea girl, the name once given to the young women who picked the harvest. It suits this tea: it does the everyday work of the range without any fuss.
It’s a blended gyokuro, put together at Sakamotoen from the farm’s own shaded leaf. Blending is how the farm keeps the character consistent from year to year, and it makes Chamusume the most forgiving tea we sell. Brew it a little hot or a little long and it stays smooth, with the gentle sweetness that shading gives the leaf.
If you’ve never had gyokuro, start here. If you drink it every morning, this is the one that won’t hurt to go through a pack of. Each 50g pack brews 25 to 37 cups, since the same leaves steep two or three times over.
How to Brew
You can reuse the same tea leaves 2-3 times. On the second and third brew, steep for only 30 seconds. This ratio is just a guide, please adjust the amount of tea and water to your taste!
A 50g pack can make between 25 and 37 cups of tea!
Pick Green is certified organic green tea sourced from Sakamotoen, a family owned tea farm in Kagoshima, Japan. Sakamotoen has been producing green tea for almost 100 years.

What is Gyokuro Tea?
Gyokuro is admired as the highest grade of Japanese green tea. The name “gyokuro” translates as “jade dew” in reference to the bright green colour in the cup. It differs from the standard sencha (a classic unshaded green tea) in being grown under the shade rather than the full sun. Shading causes both the amino acid theanine and the alkaloid caffeine in the tea leaves to increase, which yields a sweet flavour.
