Description
Chameijin, the tea master, is the top of the range and the best leaf Sakamotoen makes.
It’s grown from Saemidori, a cultivar that only thrives in the warm south of Japan, which is exactly where this farm sits. Saemidori is sought out for two things: natural sweetness and unusually low astringency. Under the farm’s two layers of shade, in near darkness for the final two weeks before the single spring harvest, both qualities intensify. The brewed cup is a deep, vivid green, dense with umami, and sweet without anything added to it.
This is the tea for the people and moments that deserve it. It rewards care: water rested to 60 degrees, a small pot, a slow pour to the last drop. Then steep the same leaves again, because leaf like this doesn’t give everything on the first infusion.
How to Brew
You can reuse the same tea leaves 2-3 times. On the second and third brew, steep for only 30 seconds. This ratio is just a guide, please adjust the amount of tea and water to your taste!
A 50g pack can make between 25 and 37 cups of tea!

What is Gyokuro Tea?
Gyokuro is admired as the highest grade of Japanese green tea. The name “gyokuro” translates as “jade dew” in reference to the bright green colour in the cup. It differs from the standard sencha (a classic unshaded green tea) in being grown under the shade rather than the full sun. Shading causes both the amino acid theanine and the alkaloid caffeine in the tea leaves to increase, which yields a sweet flavour.
